The increasing dynamism in the global economy has come to stay as an irreversible trend, fuelled to a great extent by rapid advances in technology and changes in the social, cultural and political spheres. In such a rapidly changing world, the lifespan of businesses is reducing fast, and industry cycles are expected to become increasingly shorter. Such a rapid churn - the decline of the old and the emergence of the new - demands that established firms remain entrepreneurial even as they nurture and grow their core businesses.

Entpreneurial efforts within a mature firm, also known as Corporate entrepreneurship, is important for firm survival and long-term growth. It ensures that the firm remains abreast of emerging trends and disruptions, and responds to them in a timely manner. As important as this is, it is not easy for established firms to be entrepreneurial. It presents a plethora of strategic, operational and decision making challenges.

This program introduces participants to the notion of Corporate entrepreneurship, the various forms it can take, the challenges it presents and potential resolution, and the essential organizational elements required to build an effective corporate entrepreneurship engine within the firm. It will prepare business managers and leaders to create a systematic program to keep their organizations a step ahead of disruptors.

The objective of the program is:

  • To expose participants to the range of corporate entrepreneurial strategies.
  • To provide an understanding of the organizational rigidities that hinder corporate entrepreneurship and ways to overcome them.
  • To help participants design/improve the corporate entrepreneurship effort within their own organizations.

The program will comprise three modules. The first will focus on Intrapreneurship, an organic corporate entrepreneurship strategy. The second module will delve into Corporate venturing, which will explore the interface between established firms and their engagement with startups. The third module will interlock with the first two, and focus on reflection and development of a plan for corporate entrepreneurship in the participants’ contexts.

This program is for middle/senior managers. It will be relevant for managers who are managing large teams and/or those with P&L responsibility. Participants may come from a variety of functions - engineering, marketing, procurement etc. Participants may also be from corporate development units within firms.

This intense 3-day program will employ several pedagogies to bring alive the concepts of corporate entrepreneurship. We will have case discussions, simulation (numbers permitting), lectures, breakout discussions and expert panels. These components will allow students to interact, analyze, reflect and stratgeize. A set of curated readings and additional references will be provided for later reference.
