Japanese Language, Conversation and Culture Study Program

With over 4,900 Japanese business establishments in India and countless Indian companies collaborating with Japan, the ties between the two nations are stronger than ever. As Japan looks to welcome skilled talent from India, understanding the nuances of the Japanese language and business culture has become essential for professionals looking to make an impact. 

The Japanese Language, Conversation, and Culture (JLCC) Program, offered under the aegis of the Mizuho India Japan Study Centre (MIJSC) at IIM Bangalore, is designed for individuals who seek to deepen their understanding of Japanese language and culture—whether for professional growth or personal enrichment. 

Program Objective 

Comprehensive Language Training: Gain a solid foundation in Japanese, from foundational proficiency to conversational fluency. 

Practical Communication Skills: Develop the ability to engage in meaningful conversations and navigate diverse settings. 

Immersive Cultural Experience: Explore Japan’s rich cultural heritage and its unique business etiquette through an interactive, hands-on approach. 

Holistic Skill Development: Enhance reading, writing, and speaking abilities to ensure well-rounded language competence. 

Program Overview 

The JLCC Program is a comprehensive one-year course crafted to equip professionals with the essential skills required to effectively do business in Japan or with Japanese companies. The program is structured into two distinct streams, catering to varying levels of language proficiency and professional needs.

Pre-requisite 

Stream 1 Foundational Course (Targeting Japanese Language Proficiency Test N5) 

None 

Stream 2 Basic Course (Targeting Japanese Language Proficiency Test N4) 

Passed or possess knowledge equivalent to N5 

• 130 Hours (Stream 1) and 120 Hours (Stream 2) of Classroom teaching paced twice a week, with enough time for review and recap. 

• Use of standard textbooks for Japanese language proficiency tests (JLPT) N5 & N4. 

• Conversational skill-building through interactive classroom learning. 

• Language Labs every quarter to provide immersive language experience. 

• Regular assignments and recap of each lesson.
