Overview:

IIMB initiated this programme for entrepreneurs and family business owners in the year of 2007 to enhance business management skills, implement latest technological, digital and strategic initiatives, to create sustainable and future-ready businesses. The programme is intended to impart an essential set of managerial skills to successfully carry out their businesses in fast-changing business environment. This long-standing program has been well received by 13 cohorts in the past. The uniqueness and effectiveness of the program are based on these four pillars:

  • Foundational Learning: Get a 360-degree view of business, its operating environment, and its functional management through classroom sessions with world-class IIMB faculty and industry-leaders.  
  • Action Learning: Work on a new developmental or problem-solving initiative within businesses with periodical advice and review from faculty mentors at IIMB.
  • Peer-Learning: Learn from a cohort of participants with similar business challenges and exchange different perspectives and ideas. 
  • Self-Learning: Reinforce core functional management topics like Accounting with optional access to self-paced learning using MOOCs [Massive Open Online Courses].

 

Programme Objectives:

The participants attending the Management Programme for Entrepreneurship and Family Businesses (MPEFB) will learn how to:

  • Build successful ventures   
    • Nurture creative and innovative thinking and identifying business opportunities.
    • Shape business opportunities using experimental and frugal approach to counter uncertainty.
    • Stabilize a configuration of new opportunities to position them for scale-up.
  • Develop business strategies to 
    • Articulate vision and strategies for competitive excellence.
    • Configure the organization to align with strategies.
    • Achieve operational excellence through effective execution.
    • Nurture a talented and experienced team.
    • Measure and communicate performance to stakeholders.
    • Retain stakeholder support through effective governance and practices.
  • Adopt best practices to ensure trans-generational continuity of Family Businesses
    • Define the entrepreneurial vision for both the family and business.
    • Adopt effective mechanisms to proactively manage the family-business interface.
    • Meticulously plan for succession and professionalization to ensure long term sustainability.

Content: 

  • Understanding Business Environment - This module is held at IIMB Campus and  sets the context for the programme
  • Mastering Functional Management - Strong foundational management skills and training. During this phase, participants are required to identify a project which focuses on developing a new feature/address an existing problem.
  • Exploring Korea and Collaborative Opportunities - The Korea Immersion week has been designed with a view to providing an opportunity for the MPEFB participants to create ties and explore collaborative opportunities with smalland
    mid-sized Korean businesses.
  • Formulating Growth Strategies -Learn entrepreneurial ways to look for new ways of growing your business and capitalizing on market opportunities.
  • Enhancing and Sustaining Competitiveness - This module facilitates participants to find ways of enhancing organizational capabilities and resources to remain competitive.
  • Leading into the Future - Integrate all the learning acquired at different phases of the programme and work through the  details of making and executing appropriate decisions.

 

 

Who Should Attend:

The programme is designed for entrepreneurs and individuals who run family businesses. Profile requirements are outlined below:

  • Participants should be graduates with 5-years of experience after graduation. 
  • Those with professional qualifications from well-known/reputed educational institutions are preferred. 
  • Participants are expected to have a track record as entrepreneurs. If the applicant is an owner involved in building high-growth enterprise, the criterion of experience may be relaxed at the discretion of the Programme Directors. 
  • Participants are expected to have the requisite aptitude and skills to be able to work independently on computers to be able to accomplish the learning goals of the programme.
  • Participants are also required to have the requisite attitude and participate actively throughout the programme.

Programme Directors:

Professor Suresh Bhagavatula - Professor - Entrepreneurship
Prof. Bhagavatula’s research interests intersect Entrepreneurship and Social Networks. In entrepreneurship, his interests are in both low- and hightechnology firms in India. Within the social network domain, he is interested in understanding the influence social capital has on the performance of entrepreneurs and teams. His research has been published in top journals such as Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal.

Professor Sai Chittaranjan Kalubandi- Assistant Professor – Strategy and Entrepreneurship
Prof. Sai Chittaranjan Kalubandi is an Assistant Professor in Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB). Sai’s research interests intersect strategy and entrepreneurship. His research interests in strategy are in nonmarket strategies, internal markets, institutional reforms and internationalization. In entrepreneurship, Sai’s research interests are in international entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial pivots, and new venture funding. He received his MBA (Finance) and MPhil (Management) from the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning and was awarded the All Rounder Gold Medal in 2009. He completed his PhD from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad in 2019 and was a recipient of the Prof. Tirath Gupta Memorial Best Thesis Award in 2019. Sai has presented his research at several reputed international conferences, and has published a paper on outsourcing and firm performance and a book chapter on philanthropic healthcare models. 

Professor Hyun Chul Maeng - Assistant Professor – Marketing PhD (Marketing), HKUST Hong Kong , MSc (Business Administration) Seoul National University Korea, BBA, Seoul National University, Korea
Prof. Hyun Chul Maeng’s research interests are in strategic marketing communications and in consumer judgment and decision making. He uses experimental and analytical tools to gain exciting insights into managerial relevance. He teaches marketing communications and marketing management at IIMB. He also writes articles introducing Indian consumers and marketing in South Korean media. He received Ph.D. in Marketing from HKUST, and earned MSc in Management and BBA from Seoul National University. Before his Ph.D. studies, he worked at LG Chem and engaged in extensive volunteer work in education in Kazakhstan.

Programme Charges:

The programme fees is:

1. Domestic component:  INR 7,27,000 + applicable GST(Non-Residential) or INR 8,25,000 + applicable GST ( Residential)

2. International component: USD 2,500 + applicable GST(In-person delivery) or USD 500 + applicable GST (Live Online delviery)

which is payable in instalments as per the schedule indicated below.

How to Apply?

 

Award of Certificate

A part time programme certificate of completion will be awarded by IIMB to participants at the end of the programme upon successful completion of the programme and satisfying programme requirements.

Selection Criteria:

The number of participants for this programme is limited to 30. After taking participants' profile, their entrepreneurial journey, and their statement of purpose into consideration, a selection committee will select the most suitable candidates for the programme. 

 

Alumni

MPEFB participants become IIMB EEP alumni on completion of the programme and thereby gain access to the alumni network of senior management professionals across various industry sectors.
