Overview / Objective of the programme
The objective of this programme is to understand AI technologies and examine how they enable digital transformation in organisations. The focus is on managers' decisions, the nature of reorganisation and transformation in organisations, and the competitive possibilities. The course covers the nature of digital transformation that organisations are currently undergoing, the role of AI and ways in which specific technologies are implemented. The focus is on basic concepts of technologies and how they are managed: how data are accumulated, how software is built and tested, how decision-making is assigned to machines and humans, what type of biases may emerge, and how operations are grown and scaled. This course also examines the economic and social impact of AI, with a view to understanding developments and disruptions in the future.

After completing the programme, participants can expect to:
1. Have a strong grasp of digital transformation that organisations are engaged in.
2. Understand concepts such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Neural Networks, Supervised Learning, Classification and  Prediction.
3. Understand how managerial decision making and policy are impacted by AI technologies
4. Have a view of the challenges of adopting AI technologies, acquire and manage data, and manage teams that are using AI
5. Understand the implications of the decisions made by machines, the nature and type of biases, the ethics of such decisions and the impact of AI on organisations and competition.

Content

Whom is the target audience?
This programme is for mid-career to senior managers trying to understand how they can leverage AI technologies within their organisations. The programme emphasizes core understanding of the technology with a view to managing it. Participants need not have an IT or technical background, but just a broad understanding of IT. This programme is also for those managers who are already engaged with some AI-based technologies and want to expand their understanding of all  management challenges that arise and how they can be addressed.

Pedagogy
The classes will be conducted in a lecture/demonstration/discussion format. Participants are expected to stay alert, listen to the instructor and other participants, and respond to questions and comments.

Some do-it-yourself assignments will be provided for those who are technically inclined and want to learn more details about implementation. These will be given out as voluntary assignments, where code and data will be provided, along with instructions on how to run the software.

Programme Fee
INR 1,00,500/- Residential and INR 90,000/- Non -Residential (+ Applicable GST) per person for participants from India and its equivalent in US Dollars for participants from other countries.

All enrolments are subject to review and approval by the programme director. Joining Instructions will be sent to the selected candidates 10 days prior the start of the programme.

The programme fee should be received by the Executive Education Office before the programme commencement date.

In case of cancellations, the fee will be refunded only if a request is received at least 15 days prior to the start of the programme.

If a nomination is not accepted,the fee will be refunded to the person/ organisation concerned.

A certificate of participation will be awarded to the participants by IIMB.

Rahul De' is Professor of Information Systems at IIM Bangalore. He joined IIMB in 2002 and served as the Hewlett-Packard Chair Professor in ICT for Sustainable Economic Development from 2004-18.

He teaches courses in Artificial Intelligence and Information Systems. His primary research interests are in AI Ethics, e-Government systems, Open Source, Digital Payments, Tele-medicine, and ICT for Development.

Professor Dé has published four books, one textbook in Information Systems, and over 75 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals, books, and conference proceedings.

He has taught AI and Information Systems courses to management students for over 30 years. He has offered these courses to undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students. He has wide international experience and has taught various courses in universities in the United States, Spain, France, Sweden, Norway and Italy. He has also offered courses on the online platforms edX and Swayam.

In December 2020, Prof De' was recognized as one of the top ten AI researchers in India by Analytics India magazine. In July 2010, he received the Best Professor in Information Systems award at Asia's Best B-School Awards in Singapore. In 2009, he received the Outstanding Paper Award at the Eighth International Conference on Electronic Government, EGOV 2009, at Linz, Austria. In 2007, he was awarded the Rene Wagenaar Outstanding Paper Award at the Sixth International Conference on Electronic Government, EGOV 2007, in Regensburg, Germany.
