The programme Unleashing the Corporate Athlete in You is a capability enhancement programme for leaders and managers based on perspectives and lessons learnt from the world of sports. World class athletes and sportsperson deliver consistent high performance under pressures of expectations and competition. Such high performance is a result of systematic development of their physical, emotional and cognitive systems within the context of their particular sports. Although the context is different for leaders and managers working in corporations, they are also expected to deliver consistent high performance under pressure. Therefore, it comes as no surprise when research indicated that high performers in organizations exhibit many traits that are common with world class athletes such as carefully choosing goals that stretch but are realistic, developing mental toughness so that one can be resilient in the face of adversity and finally achieving ideal performance state.

This programme will focus on three key aspects of capability development as follows:
Goal setting – How can one adapt a balanced approach to goal setting by understanding the technical, tactical and strategic aspects of professional and personal goals? How does one put goals into practice and how to overcome the typical challenges that you would encounter while trying to stick to your goals? Leadership research indicates that those people with clearly defined goals are significantly more likely to achieve their maximum potential and success than those that do not. These sessions could be your first step towards planning your future and realizing your potential.

Developing your Ideal Performance State (IPS) – IPS is defined as the meta-capability of integrating ones physical, emotional, mental and spiritual capabilities to sustain high performance over time, even in the face of adversity. This module will introduce you to the four pillars of IPS and how you can develop your meta-capability towards reaching your IPS. In the process, it will also be discussing some of the tough life-choices that you need to make so that you can achieve something as powerful as IPS.

Inculcating Mental Toughness - The ability to remain emotionally strong in the most extreme competitive and combative environments is often the difference between winning and losing.
This module will introduce you to some of the tools used in professional sport to manage mental toughness, to reduce stress and to focus, which have been translated to be applied in organizational situations. These mental tools will enable you to manage and balance your own psychological situations in a dynamic and competitive environment that you would encounter in your professional lives as leaders of organizations.

As a unique experiment, this programme will delivered by an academician, who has an abiding interest in sports and a highly accomplished tennis coach who has a wealth of experience in running companies as well as coaching leaders across the world. Both of them complement each other in transferring learning between the world of sports and domain of management and leadership.
