Programme Overview
“Design thinking is a human-centered approach to innovation that draws from the designer’s toolkit to integrate the needs of people, the possibilities of technology, and the requirements for business success.” – Tim Brown, Executive Chair of Ideo

So why is Design thinking useful to leaders? Simply put, Design thinking encourages radical thinking. Leaders who consciously adopt a design thinking approach are more capable of questioning surface assumptions, asking difficult questions of themselves and others and taking more expansive and creative views of the problems facing them. Design thinking also pushes leaders to take a look at all the parties involved in the complex network of people and systems. It enables deeper stakeholder understanding through a deliberate focus on adopting an empathetic mindset. Design thinking empowers leaders to leverage non-obvious resources available to them through their network of connected stakeholders in creative ways. Finally design thinking gives leaders a structured and systematic way to build a culture of innovation within their organizations.

Programme Objective

  • Understanding and applying the design thinking mindset in your role as a leader

Testimonials

The Design Thinking for Leader’s workshop conducted at IIM Bangalore by Prof. Sai and Dr. Ramya was indeed a fantastic workshop. The pattern followed by the instructors was systematic, starting with a beautiful introduction to the topic and subsequently getting on to the project. I am using the design thinking skills learnt from this course in my organization for innovation management and better customer experience thereby eventually growing the business in the region as well as globally.

In the life insurance industry, sales teams play a significant role in a company's growth.  I was on a quest of empowering the sales teams in my organization and I stumbled upon Design Thinking as the potential approach. IIM Bangalore was my first choice to pursue Design Thinking.  Their approach of 'Learn by doing' and immersing us in a project to learn the concepts helped me to see the benefits right away. The focus on a 'Human Centric Approach' inspired me to implement Design Thinking in our organization immediately.  I personally thank Professors Sai Yayavaram and Ramya Ranganathan for making this programme memorable and useful.
