Dr. Rashmi Subbanarasimha, Research Associate, CDPG, successfully defended her doctoral dissertation on 11 June 2026, completing her PhD in Information Technology and Public Policy from IIIT Bangalore. Her dissertation, Visualizing Infrastructural Labour: An Ethnographic Account of the Making of Digital Public Services in India, draws on extended fieldwork to examine how human labour shapes and is often rendered invisible within India’s digital governance infrastructures. She holds degrees in Architecture (B.Arch.) and Urban and Regional Planning (M.Plan.), and brings over 13 years of professional experience across architecture, urban design, city planning, teaching, and public policy.
At CDPG, Dr. Rashmi is engaged in a diverse research portfolio: developing a teaching case on agricultural digital markets, authoring a book chapter on the State of Agriculture DPIs in India, contributing to technology policy publications, and serving as Principal Investigator for a project on creating a Digital Public Ecosystem for Education in India. Looking ahead, she aims to deepen research on inclusive and equitable digital ecosystems, with particular focus on how gender, class, and everyday social realities shape and are often overlooked in the design of digital public services.
