The General Management Programme on Entertainment & Media Business (GEM) is a certificate programme that has been structured around two main blocks of managing the creative process in entertainment and the business of entertainment.

Programme Overview

The Entertainment industry is a fast-growing business segment. The last two decades have seen large scale corporatisation of the satellite TV business and feature film business. The COVID induced lockdown has resulted in a high consumption of the visual media. The OTT business has seen an exponential increase of user base, this has also meant OTT platforms have increased their production spends dramatically. However there are no courses that specialise in Media and Entertainment Management programme. There is an urgent need to train and equip young managers with unique skill sets to do well in this fast changing field.

The course provides a framework for understanding the key marketing and strategic issues facing organizations in the entertainment industry. Key sectors of the entertainment industry are covered, focusing on OTT, feature films, television, e-sports, animation and VFX, music, performing arts, and publishing.

The course provides a framework for understanding the dynamics of producing a finished creative product in the entertainment and media industry. All the facets of the production process are explored, including script selection, finance, budgeting, timetable development, team building, talent selection, contract negotiation, regulation, and technology. This course also takes a comprehensive look at the world of marketing in the entertainment industry as it is practiced today and how it will change in the television and advertising fields.

  • I come from a creative background and even though I have very strong roots in this sector, I wanted something that would legitimise my skills and make me stand apart in the industry as a professional. I happened to find this programme at that transitory phase in my life right after I completed business school. Since our speakers were all seasoned industry professionals, I think it was tremendously valuable to be able to learn from the people at the very centre of it all. The sessions were delivered in form of interactive learning sessions and an active participation. It helped us tap into ourselves which helped me discover more about the way I operate. I was also able to meet some amazing peers in this short span of our learning journey and I am excited to see what we’ll come up with in the future.
