Professor Pulak Ghosh delivered the first lecture of the VYAKHYAN-IndianOil LEAD Talks on ‘Big Data and Emerging Technologies’, Professor Ritwik Banerjee received a grant of 41,542 GBP from ICG for his research proposal on 'Social Identity, Caste Bias and Under-provisioning of Public Goods', Professors Trilochan Sastry and Prateek Raj explored what Indian voters prioritize when they cast their ballot, and Professor A. Damodaran explained how mainstreaming crypto coins can significantly impact public goods in developing countries. Sharing an abstract from her recent research, Professor Mukta Kulkarni, Mphasis Chair of Digital Accessibility and Inclusion at IIM Bangalore, and her co-authors argue that workplace inclusion will be enhanced only when we understand the diversity in disability. ![]() “Every dollar spent on Big Data brings back eight dollars in revenue.” Professor Pulak Ghosh, IIMB Chair of Excellence Professor Pulak Ghosh, faculty in the Decision Sciences area at IIM Bangalore and IIMB Chair of Excellence, was invited to deliver the inaugural talk of the ‘IndianOil LEAD Talks.’ Prof. Ghosh spoke on ‘Big Data and Emerging Technologies’. In his hour-long, comprehensive, insightful and engaging lecture, he took the audience into the amazing world of AI-aided Business Analytics that has a huge potential to make business decisions efficient and profitable.
![]() Does public good provision in India decrease with an increase in caste-based fractionalization? Professor Ritwik Banerjee, IIMB Young Faculty Research Chair A research proposal titled, ‘Social Identity, Caste Bias and Under-provisioning of Public Goods’, co-authored by Professor Ritwik Banerjee, faculty from the Economics & Social Sciences area at IIM Bangalore, and IIMB Young Faculty Research Chair, has been awarded a grant of 41,542 GBP by the International Growth Centre (IGC). Through this project, Prof. Banerjee and his fellow researchers would be able to uncover the causal connection between social heterogeneity and public good provision and comment on the underlying mechanisms behind this channel. This would help them identify bottlenecks in the provision of public goods and inform policy regarding the optimal manner of provision of public goods.

M S Rajagopalan M S Rajagopalan (MSR) is an IIT Madras and IIM Bangalore alumnus with a 35-year corporate career in sales, marketing, communication, advertising and media in TVS Motors, Ogilvy & Mather, and Mudra DDB Needham. His most recent stint was a decade spent as President of Qube Digital Cinema. MSR is an Adjunct Professor of Management Communication at IIM Bangalore and IIM Visakhapatnam.
Rakesh is the founder of the ‘School of Meaningful Experiences’ and an Adjunct Faculty of Communication at IIM Bangalore. His research and teaching interests focus on how charismatic leaders build persuasive messages with high audience impact. Rakesh has published four books and two online courses on Communication. An alumnus of NIT Suratkal and IIM Bangalore, he has a PhD from Cardiff School of Management. Rakesh has also worked in various business roles at Wipro, Intel, and QualComm.

Arijit Sikdar Arijit Sikdar is Associate Professor (International Business and Strategy) at the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD). He did his B.Tech from IIT-ISM Dhanbad and is a Fellow of IIM Ahmedabad. Prior to UOWD, he has taught at IIM Indore and MDI Gurgaon. Arijit’s research interests are in the areas of International Business, Strategy, Entrepreneurship and Technology Management. He has extensive experience in designing and delivering open and custom management development workshops for different organizations in India and the UAE. He has worked in management consultancy and thus brings industry perspective to his teaching.

IIMB Welcomes…. ![]() Professor Ananth Krishnamurthy Ananth Krishnamurthy joined IIM Bangalore, in April 2019, as Professor in the Desicion Sciences area. His research focuses on stochastic modeling and optimization techniques for the design and analysis of manufacturing systems and supply chains. His Ananth’s topics of interest include design and analysis of supply chains, warehousing and logistics, biomanufacturing, energy supply chains, manufacturing systems competitiveness, and Quick Response Manufacturing. His research is supported by government agencies as well as industry. Professor Krishnamurthy also served as the Director of the Centre for Quick Response Manufacturing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
IIMB bids adieu to…. Professor Vatsala Nagarajan IIM Bangalore reports with sadness the passing away of Professor Vatsala Nagarajan, a faculty stalwart, on May 15. Professor Vatsala Nagarajan joined IIM Bangalore on February 1, 1974, in the Finance area. She served as Dean from April 18, 1991 to September 30, 1992, before retiring from the services of the Institute on September 30, 1992. An outstanding teacher, friend, guide, and mentor to students, staff and faculty, Professor Vatsala was always approachable, supportive and positive. On 27th July, 2018, ‘Guru Purnima’ day, IIM Bangalore had dedicated a classroom at the IIMB campus in her name. This effort was led by the PGP Class of 1992. This was the first time in the history of IIMB that the school had a classroom named after a faculty member. On that day, the 86-year-old professor was accompanied by her husband for the dedication.
