In commemoration of the Silver Jubilee of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, the book ‘Management Perspectives: Essays on Managerial Priorities and Management Education’ edited by Professor N. Balasubramanian was published in the year 1999.
The following is the abstract of the book:
Almost a decade into the post-liberalisation era many issues are still defying satisfactory solution. Is it right to focus reforms only on the corporate and government sectors to the exclusion of others who play a significant role in wealth creation in the country? How do we cope with the problems associated with capital account convertibility? Can power sector reforms be successfully handled in a piece-meal manner? How do we harness IT power to enhance management education? Is the American MBA the ultimate and universally applicable framework for management education? Where do we see corporate governance in the decades ahead? These are some of the issues that the authors—academics and practitioners both from within and outside the country—seek to address in this book.
Over the last twenty-five years, men and women of great eminence have addressed the students, faculty and others at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, on a wide array of subjects, ranging from human values and social responsibility to science, technology, business and the economy. Giants in their own field—be it politics, economics, business, education, science, technology or agriculture—the prescience and insight of this impressive array of India’s who’s who are truly remarkable. This book recaptures the essence of their wisdom and experience, which remains as valid today as when their lectures were delivered.
This book is offered as a tribute to the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore on its Silver Jubilee. It is unique not just for its historical flavour but even more importantly, for its what to and how to approach to the subjects discussed.
