Professor Vinod K. Tewari served at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) from 3 March 1980 to 30 June 1998, initially joining as Associate Professor and later becoming Professor in 1985. His academic contributions were closely associated with the Centre for Habitat and Environmental Studies (CHES), where he played a pivotal role in advancing research and teaching in urban systems, regional development, public policy, and spatial planning.

At IIMB, Professor Tewari developed and taught several innovative programmes and courses, including “Quantitative Urban Models” and “Location of Facilities” in the Post Graduate Programme (PGP). He also contributed to executive education initiatives, seminars, and sector-oriented management development activities. His work was deeply interdisciplinary and linked academic inquiry with public systems and urban governance.

Professor Tewari led and coordinated numerous institutional initiatives, serving as Coordinator of Research and Consultancy, Coordinator of Fellowship, Research and Case Development, Chair of Fellow Programme Admissions, Dean (Coordination and Planning), Chief Vigilance Officer, and Editor of IIMB Management Review. He contributed significantly to strengthening research culture, faculty evaluation systems, doctoral processes, and institutional governance.

His consultancy and collaborative research engagements included projects with the World Bank, IDBI, MMTC, National Science Foundation (USA), Bangalore Development Authority, and the National Commission on Urbanization. His scholarly work on Bangalore’s urban structure and housing remains widely cited.
