Arnab Mukherji is a Professor of Public Policy at the Centre for Public Policy, IIM Bangalore (IIMB). He currently holds the IIMB Chair of Excellence and is the Chairperson of the Postgraduate Programme in Public Policy and Management at IIMB. He is an applied microeconomist whose work focuses on the economics of healthcare and governance. He actively collaborates with international and interdisciplinary research teams such as SEHAT (Duke University, UNC Chapel Hill, and UC London) and PROSPERED (anchored at McGill University). His work on Bihar was published in a book edited by N. K. Singh and N. Stern titled “The Story of New Bihar: Rekindling Governance and Development” and released by the President of India. His research has been published in international journals such as Science, American Journal of Public Health, BMJ, Economic Development and Cultural Change, Journal of Applied Econometrics, Journal of Development Studies, Journal of Health Economics, and World Development. He also writes popular pieces for print and social media and has attempted to popularise the use of data for policy through initiatives like the IIMB Policy Hackathon. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (USA), the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research (WHO), and the Canadian Institute of Health Research. From time to time, he has also been a consultant with the Government of Karnataka, the Government of Bihar, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank. He has been a Commissioner for the Lancet Citizens’ Commission on Reimagining Healthcare in India.
