Abstract: Information Security (Infosec) research includes dealing with protection and mitigation of threats to Information Systems. Although the technical, externally focused efforts on security subsystems and prevention of intrusion are important, one area that is a predominant weakness in properly securing information assets is the individual user. Institutional pressure and security systems allow us to overcome the limitations of Dunbar numbers by allowing people to trust systems instead of people. Trust is the fundamental pillar of behavioral infosec research. It is this trust that can foster digital, social and financial inclusion, that are among the goals of 2030 UN Agenda for Sustainable Development. Prof. Rao will provide some examples of his research.

Speaker Profile: Dr. H. Raghav Rao is AT&T Distinguished Chair in Infrastructure Assurance and Security, The University of Texas at San Antonio. He also holds a courtesy appointment as full professor in the UTSA Department of Computer Science. Prior to UTSA, Prof. Rao was the SUNY Distinguished Service Professor, University at Buffalo.

His interests are in the areas of management information systems, decision support systems, e-business, emergency response management systems and information assurance and artificial intelligence. He has chaired sessions at international conferences and presented numerous papers. He has co-edited four books, including ‘Information Assurance, Security and Privacy Services’ and ‘Managing Information Assurance in Financial Services’. He has authored or co-authored more than 200 technical papers, of which more than 125 are published in archival journals. Dr. Rao is a recipient of many prestigious awards.
