IIM Bangalore to host roundtable discussion on ‘Policy Enabling Information Technology in Healthcare’ on April 27

16 April, 2019, Bengaluru: IIM Bangalore, in association with the Software Freedom Law Centre of India and Facebook, will host a roundtable discussion on ‘Policy Enabling Information Technology in Healthcare’, on April 27 (Saturday), 2019, at the Central Pergola, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Information technology (IT) permeates the space of healthcare. From devices that monitor vital parameters continuously to those that reveal patterns in images and assist with diagnosis, to systems that provide long-term analysis of patient well-being, almost every aspect of living and metabolism is now subject to IT measurement, storage, scrutiny and analysis.

Many start-ups and established healthcare providers are setting up businesses to harness these new technologies and provide new and innovative healthcare and health monitoring products. This new and emerging space affects medical science, medical law, common health practices, technology innovation, ethics, medical and healthcare management, and the very sociology of medical practice and healthcare. Many questions arise in this context, relating to technology, data, impact, policy, etc. The workshop will aim to address many such queries.

The workshop is aimed at faculty members, students of the doctoral programme - the Fellow Programme in Management (FPM), and decision makers from the industry.

The Programme Director is Professor Rahul Dé, Chair and faculty in the Information Systems area of IIMB.

IIM Bangalore, Software Freedom Law Centre of India and Facebook have joined hands to organize a series of workshops on issues of technology and society. These workshops will be conducted at IIM Bangalore and will cover contemporary aspects of technology in society, such as regulations, governance, privacy, data use and protection, and much more.

The objective of the programme is to bring together key stakeholders - business managers, entrepreneurs, policy makers, academics, users and government - to comment on new phenomena and trends in technology use in society. Each workshop will focus on some key technology or a key domain of technology use and bring together relevant actors. The outcome of the workshops will be policy documents that will be widely disseminated.

The first of the series would be the roundtable discussion on April 27. There are no charges to attend the workshop.
