Conference aims to act as a forum for academic researchers, professionals, financial creditors and policymakers to discuss impending issues on making the IBC more effective as an institutional mechanism

22 February, 2023, Bengaluru: The Centre for Capital Markets and Risk Management (CCMRM) at IIM Bangalore, in partnership with the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI), will conduct the second International Research Conference on Insolvency and Bankruptcy (IBC 2023) from 23rd February (Thursday) to 25th February (Saturday) 2023. 

The conference is being co-sponsored by the British High Commission, New Delhi; National E-Governance Services Limited (NeSL); Small Industries Development Bank of India; Union Bank of India and Bank of Maharashtra, and will be co-supported by the Insolvency Law Academy. The three-day research conference will be held at the IIMB campus at Bengaluru, Karnataka.

The conference will be inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Chief Justice (former) Ramalingam Sudhakar, President, National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). The special addresses will be delivered by Hon’ble Justice Kannan Ramesh, Judge, Appellate Division, Supreme Court of Singapore and Judge, Singapore International Commercial Court; Alex Ellis, Hon’ble British High Commissioner to India; Dr. Manoj Govil, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India; Ravi Mital, Chairperson, IBBI; and Prof. Chetan Subramanian, Dean, Faculty, IIMB.

The conference is open to professionals from all disciplines, interested and involved in insolvency and bankruptcy processes and its multidisciplinary aspects. This conference aims to act as a forum for academic researchers, professionals, financial creditors and policymakers to discuss impending issues on making the IBC more effective as an institutional mechanism. 

The conference will offer a unique opportunity to listen to thought leaders and policy makers in the three panel discussions in addition to around 40 research paper presentations. The three panel discussions would be themed on: ‘Insolvency Resolutions: A Special Case for MSMEs’, ‘Next Generation Reforms in Indian Insolvency Regime’ and ‘IBC – Perspectives of Key Stakeholders’. These discussions will offer thought leadership insights from leading luminaries from Government and industry as well as from legal practitioners and academicians to assess and understand the present while setting course for the future for the insolvency regime in India. 

During the conference, around 40 professionals and scholars of economics, law, finance, banking academia, and management will present their take on various topics in the insolvency domain. International experience in insolvency will also be discussed through the work from international scholars from countries like Australia and England.

The conference will also feature distinguished faculty including Prof. Vikrant Vig (Kellogg School of Management), Prof. Aurelio Gurrea-Martinez (Singapore Management University) and Prof. Wai Yee WAN (City University of Hong Kong) as well as distinguished professionals such as Hiroshi Kasuya (Japan), James H.M. Sprayregen (USA) and Suman Batra, among others, dealing with restructuring and insolvency. Academics with research in the field of corporate distress and insolvency will also be part of the conference. 

The conference also includes a workshop on ‘Data-driven Insolvency Research’ aiming to provide participants useful insights in the areas of research, extensive exposure to data currently available for such research and future developments.
