The talk on ‘Decline in Social Values in Society and its Consequences’ will be led by Justice N. Santosh Hegde, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India

22 June, 2023, Bengaluru: The Centre for Public Policy (CPP) at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) will host the 5th lecture of the CPP Foundation Day Lecture Series at 5.00 pm on 10th July 2023, on the topic: ‘Decline in Social Values in Society and its Consequences’, to be led by Justice N. Santosh Hegde, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India.

Speaker Profile: Justice Santosh Hegde joined the Bar in 1966 and was appointed Advocate General in February 1984, was designated as Senior Advocate in May 1984 and continued as Advocate General from 1984 to 1988. He was appointed as Additional Solicitor General of India in November 1989 and held the office for 11 months. He was appointed as Solicitor General of India in 1998. He was appointed directly from the Bar as Judge of the Supreme Court of India in 1999, which is rarely done. After his retirement from the Supreme Court in June 2005, he was appointed as Chairperson, Telecom Disputed Settlement Appellate Tribunal, New Delhi. He was appointed as Lokayukta of Karnataka in 2006 for a term of five years.

He represented the State of Mysore and University of Mysore in Hockey.

He has been conferred Honorary Doctorate of Law by the University of Mangalore in 2005; by the Karnataka State Open University Mysore in 2009; by Tumkur University in 2010; Karnataka Law University, Dharwad in 2011; Alliance University, Bangalore in 2011; and Nadoja Award from Hampi Kannada University in 2016.

He was awarded Man of the Year by Times of India in 2010 & 2011, Vijaya Karnataka in 2006 and 2010, NDTV Indian of the year 2010, Bangalore Hall of Fame award for 2010, and Paul Harris Award by Rotary.

He received the Public Service Excellence Award, 2011, from the All India Management Association, Sitaram Jindal Foundation Honour for Exemplary Service in the field of Social Development, and awarded 'Chunchashree' from Adichunchanagiri Math.

The cash prize money received from these awards amounting to more than a crore has been donated by Justice Hegde to various social service organizations.

The past CPP Foundation Day lectures have been delivered by Steven Wilkinson, Nilekani Professor of India and South Asian Studies, and Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at Yale University; Tridip Suhrud, writer, translator and noted Gandhian scholar; KK Shailaja, former Minister for Health, Social Justice and Woman and Child Development, Government of Kerala, and Mrinal Pande, well-known journalist, author, television personality, and former Chair of Prasar Bharati.
