Manasi Prasad and troupe to present 50-member ensemble titled ‘Suvarna Sangeet’ during IIMB’s Golden Jubilee Foundation Week celebrations

The performance on the evening of 28th October at the picturesque Open Air Theatre on the IIMB campus is open to all

25 September, 2023, Bengaluru: To mark the momentous occasion of IIM Bangalore’s Golden Jubilee, the institute will host ‘Suvarna Sangeet’ – a grand music presentation by a 50-member ensemble on 28th October 2023, at its Open Air Theatre. The 75-minute concert is open to the public and will commence at 6.30 pm. This music presentation is part of a weeklong celebration of the 50th anniversary of IIM Bangalore.

Suvarna Sangeet is composed and directed by IIMB’s PGP alumna and well-known classical vocalist Manasi Prasad. It brings together a wide range of music genres, from Indian classical to Western classical with fusion and world music elements. Rooted in tradition, yet incorporating global influences, the music presentation is envisaged as a reflection of IIM Bangalore’s own ethos of bringing together the best of India and the world.

The music is produced and arranged by pianist and producer Shadrach Solomon, and the ensemble features a chorus of singers, Indian veena, flute, violin and percussion players as well as a Western string ensemble, guitars, keys and drums. Incorporating lyrics in Sanskrit, Kannada, Hindi and English, the performance aims to reflect diversity and harmony.

Members of the IIMB student music and dance clubs ‘Dhwani’ and ‘Taal’ will be a part of the event.

“I am thrilled and honoured to be presenting this new work for the Golden Jubilee of my alma mater. IIM Bangalore has been instrumental in shaping the lives of thousands of people, including mine. It has helped me find a unique place as an artiste and arts leader, and I am happy to be giving back to my institute in the way I know best – through music”, says Manasi Prasad.

Smt. Droupadi Murmu, Hon’ble President of India, will flag off the Golden Jubilee Foundation Week celebrations of IIM Bangalore on 26th October 2023. She will flag off the Golden Jubilee Run on campus by students, faculty, staff and alumni. The day will also see the launch of a book on the IIMB campus and a documentary on IIMB by the President. A host of activities are in store to commemorate the 50th anniversary of IIM Bangalore.
