Centre for Software and IT Management (CSITM) of IIM Bangalore to host Dr. Vivek Seshadri, Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research India and Co-Founder of Karya Inc. for a Seminar titled “Technology in Low-resource Settings: Lessons Learnt” on 01 July

The Technology and Empowerment (TEM) group at Microsoft Research India focuses on problems that particularly impacts people in low-income communities and if and how technology can help address those problems. Dr. Vivek Seshadri joined this group as a researcher five years ago. In this seminar, he will describe “Karya”, a project that aims at making digital work more accessible to people in low-income communities and its journey from a research project to an early-stage startup. He will also share key lessons in employing technology in low-resource settings.

This will be a hybrid event. The seminar of 1 hour and 15 mins will be followed by lunch at MDC. The remote participants can join the zoom link.

Dr. Vivek Seshadri is a Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research India and Co-Founder of Karya Inc, a startup focused on providing employment opportunities for rural and low-income communities. He is broadly interested in problems at the intersection of technology and global development. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and a PhD in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University where he worked on problems related to building efficient computer systems.
