Professor V Ranganathan appointed Member of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)

Dr V Ranganathan, Professor in the Economics & Social Sciences area at IIMB, has taken charge as Member (Part-time) of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) with effect from May 20, 2011.

Professor Ranganathan joined IIMB in 1977 and is the Reserve Bank of India Chair Professor on Infrastructure. He has worked in the areas of Privatisation, Regulation, Infrastructure, in Electricity and Telecom; Cost Benefit Analysis, Environmental Economics and Climate change. He has taken up public interest cases and argued in various Regulatory fora. He is an Executive Member of the South Asian Federation of Infrastructure Regulators.

Professor Ranganathan was an Advisor with UPSC, and earlier was Director, Rural Electrification Corporation, New Delhi, and was a Member of the Uttarakhand Infrastructure Board. He is currently Director, Indraprastha Gas Ltd., New Delhi.

Professor Ranganathan holds a B.Tech (Electronics and Communications) from IIT, Madras, and a doctorate in Economics from IIM Ahmedabad. He is a Fulbright Scholar of Harvard University, and has taught at the Asian Institute of Technology and at the University of Pennsylvania.
