‘From Jugaad to Systematic Innovation: The Challenge for India’, IIMB Professor Rishikesha T Krishnan’s book released

'From Jugaad to Systematic Innovation: The Challenge for India' the book authored by Professor Rishikesha T Krishnan of Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) was released by Mr Subroto Bagchi, Vice Chairman, MindTree Ltd and member of the Board of Governors IIMB, on February 5, 2010 at a function held at the IIMB campus.

In his address Mr Bagchi drew the attention of the audience to what stops India from going to next level of innovation. He said 'Innovation is not a child of instruction, but it is a child of emotion'.

Bagchi said, "Rishikesha Krishnan is doubtlessly among India's foremost chroniclers of the innovation journey. His book is a great account of the history of innovation in the post-industrial area. He has his pulse on issues that hold Indians from going to the next level." He described Professor Krishnan's book as a 'book written by faculty, but can be understood by a practicing man.'

Professor Krishnan said the objective of writing this book was to facilitate a discussion and debate as to how the industrial innovation output of India can be enhanced. He also expressed concern over poor state of innovation in India as compared to China.

According to Professor Krishnan, India has the potential to be a much better performer in Industrial innovation, but several systemic, cultural and social obstacles need to be overcome to achieve this potential. This is the message he tries to communicate to the community through the medium of 'From Jugaad to Systematic Innovation: The Challenge for India'.

Rishikesha T Krishnan is Professor in the Corporate Strategy & Policy area and Jamuna Raghavan Chair Professor of Entrepreneurship at IIMB.

Profession Krishnan has been studying innovation by organizations in India for over 15 years. He joined IIMB in May, 1996.
