Rahul Deb research seminar on January 18

11 JANUARY, 2023: The Research and Publications Office at IIMB will host a research seminar titled ‘Which Wage Distributions are Consistent with Statistical Discrimination?’ by Rahul Deb, from the University of Toronto, on 18 January 2023. The seminar will begin at 4.00 pm at Classroom P-11.

The seminar will derive a non-parametric test for statistical discrimination that can be applied to cross-sectional wage data. Specifically, it will show that the wage distributions for two groups (with identical observable characteristics) are consistent with a general reduced-form model of statistical discrimination if, and only if, neither wage distribution first-order stochastically dominates the other. This model facilitates the interpretation of a rejection of this condition as evidence of bias.

The speaker’s profile can be found at: https://www.utm.utoronto.ca/economics/people/rahul-deb
