As the infrastructure for piped water schemes is being rapidly laid out across the country, JJM is currently stepping into a crucial phase of sustainability of these schemes in the long run. In this context, the symposium will deliberate on the challenges faced in the sustainability of drinking water infrastructure built in rural India under Jal Jeevan Mission under the lenses of financial, operational and institutional sustainability. Stakeholders from diverse typographies and contexts will share their experiences, work on ground and successes.

The invitees of the symposium are the Jal Jeevan Mission implementation departments and officials from Central and State governments, NGOs involved at ground level in O&M related capacity building of local institutions and interfacing with communities for feedback, supporting agencies, JJM sector partners, donor institutions, research, and media organizations.

The event will include sessions on insights from diverse geographies like Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, etc.; panel discussions on horizontal themes with financial, operational and institutional sustainability, and highlights of people centric technology-enabled models for scale for operational, financial and institutional sustainability of piped water schemes.

Based on the discussions to be held on 2nd November 2023 and subsequent deliberations amongst the attendees, a follow-up workshop is scheduled to be held in February 2024, that will provide specific recommendations for various stakeholders to enhance the sustainability of the piped water assets built under JJM.
