IICDC has provided young tech entrepreneurs with an ecosystem and support to nurture their entrepreneurial spirit and an opportunity to leverage their talent and convert their innovations into start-ups. In its second year now, IICDC 2017 has witnessed some of the brightest engineering minds of the country giving shape to their innovative ideas by engineering path-breaking solutions.

The contest began with more than 15380 students from 965 engineering colleges entering the qualifying round from across all the states in India, out of which 73 teams reached the semi-finals – teams which have worked to design a hardware prototype of the proposed idea. These teams will be demonstrating their products during the semi-finals. Technical and business evaluation will be done during the event against a framework designed by TI and IIMB.

To inspire an entrepreneurial spirit that drives students from idea to invention to industry, helping them become successful entrepreneurs, DST has supported the contest with funding of INR 3.5 crores with an aim to catalyse the Indian manufacturing ecosystem and strengthen the ‘Make in India’ initiative. This initiative is also supported by the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Govt. of India and myGOV. IIMB will provide business mentorship during incubation of the start-ups. To guide these future entrepreneurs through the transition of idea to invention to industry, TI will provide technical mentorship and resources. Coming together of these stalwarts has created the perfect platform to encourage a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem. The final objective from the contest is to identify 10 successful start-ups which will be incubated at IIM Bangalore’s NSRCEL.
