Abstract: At the present time, all states are in competition for investments whether they are sourced inside the country or from foreign investors. Are fundamentals of the competing states most important? Or is it image and packaging created by road shows and events like Vibrant Gujarat or Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS). What role does ease of doing business play in this war for capital and investments? How is Bengal gearing up for this competition? What are its advantages, what are its challenges and limitations? How about labor costs and militancy? What about investments in education, skills and health? Does location play a role? What is the hype and what is the ground reality? What is the experience of other investors? We explore many of these considerations in the context of Bengal.
