IIMB’s EPGP hosts Prayaas Day on 5th February

The annual event hosted by Prayaas, the social initiative wing of IIMB’s EPGP, is themed around promoting social inclusion and will witness participation from the transgender community from PAYANA Foundation and children from Surabhi Foundation

01 February 2017, Bengaluru: Prayaas, the social initiative wing of IIM Bangalore’s Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP), is hosting the annual Prayaas Day on 5th February (Sunday) 2017 at the IIMB auditorium. The Prayaas team has based the theme of this year’s event on promoting social inclusion, in keeping with Mahatma Gandhi’s inspiring statement: “You must be the change you want to see in the world”.

This year, the event will witness participation of people belonging to the transgender community from PAYANA Foundation and underprivileged children from Surabhi Advaya Foundation, an orphanage based in Bangalore.

The day-long event will comprise an eye camp, sessions aimed at generating awareness on the transgender community, their challenges and achievements, as well as fun group activities. Professor U. Dinesh Kumar, EPGP Chairperson, will inaugurate the event.

The event will also involve the sharing of life experiences by eminent personalities. Movie screening and story-telling sessions would also be held for the participants. Dance performances by EPGP students will be another attraction.

Apart from individual short speeches by many participants, the highlight of the day would be the concluding lecture by theatre, film, television and media personality Prakash Belawadi, who is also an activist and a journalist from Bangalore, and co-founder of the Centre for Film and Drama, Bangalore.

The event is being organized by the students of the one-year full time residential EPGP. Established in 2009, Prayaas is the social initiative club of EPGP at IIMB, which aims to make a meaningful difference to society. The Prayaas team conducts various activities, such as eye camps, blood donation camps, etc. through the year. The team has conducted a lot of socially engaging events over the past year. A movie-screening session was held for the residents of an old age home, a day-long event was held for the residents of an orphanage and the students of EPGP celebrated Deepavali in a unique way by presenting musical instruments and creating rangolis with the residents of Surabhi Foundation. In the past, the Prayaas team held Jaipur Foot camp and eye camps on Prayaas Day at the IIMB campus.

Last year’s Prayaas Day focused on ‘Celebrating Abilities’ by providing a platform for people with disability. Prayaas organized the event in association with Spinal Foundation India.
