The dusk to dawn music, on the eve of Republic Day, extravaganza is open to all
20 January, 2024, Bengaluru: "Yamini 2024", a cultural extravaganza organised by IIM Bangalore in collaboration with SPIC MACAY, is scheduled for January 25, 2024. This event promotes the rich heritage of Indian classical music and culture.
The event has no entry fee and is open to all. Yamini has been organised by IIM Bangalore and SPIC MACAY for the past 19 years on the eve of Republic Day, making this the 20th edition of the event. Also, the event is part of IIMB's Golden Jubilee Celebrations this year. Yamini is an integral part of Bengaluru’s cultural calendar.
Padma Bhushan Begum Parween Sultana
Begum Parveen Sultana is an Indian Hindustani classical singer of the Patiala Gharana. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 1976 and the Padma Bhushan in 2014 by the Government of India and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award by the Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1998.
Padma Shri A. Kanyakumari
Padma Shri A. Kanyakumari is India’s leading violinist in the Carnatic style of music. She has been in the field for over four decades, successfully playing the various roles of soloist, accompanist, teacher, innovator and organiser, dedicating her life entirely to music. She considers herself fortunate to be a disciple of three great legendary gurus: Ivaturi Vijeswara Rao, M. Chandrasekaran and M.L. Vasanthakumari.
Margi Madhu
Margi Madhu Chakyar is one of the leading Indian contemporary artists of Koodiyattam, the two-millennium-old sole surviving ancient Sanskrit theatre art form. Son of the celebrated Koodiyattam-performing artist Moozhikkulam Kochukuttan Chakyar, Margi Madhu received intensive training in Koodiyattam from his father and his paternal uncle, the legendary Padma Bhushan Guru Ammannur Madhava Chakyar.
Pravin Godkhindi
Pravin Godkhindi is an eclectic classical flautist, performing Hindustani music on the bansuri. He studied under his father Pandit Venkatesh Godkhindi, an exponent of the Kirana Gharana, as well as Carnatic mridangist Anoor Anantha Krishna Sharma. He incorporates Carnatic rhythm into his playing, and in 2015 became the first to perform Indian classical music on the eight-foot-long contrabass flute.
Malladi Brothers
The Malladi Brothers (Sreeramprasad and Ravikumar) sing Carnatic vocal music together. They hail from an illustrious Andhra Pradesh musical family, training under their grandfather Srirammurthy and father Suri Babu, as well as Nedunuri Krishnamurthy and Sripada Pinakapani. They are particularly well-known for their renditions of Telugu songs of Saint Thyagaraja.
