Distinguished Alumnus Awards 2012
The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) celebrated its Thirty-Ninth Foundation Day on October 29, 2012. On this occasion, the Distinguished Alumnus Awards 2012 were conferred on three notable alumni. The Distinguished Alumni Award (DAA) is given every year to those chosen few alumni of IIMB who have excelled in industry or academia and have also contributed to society. Each recipient of the DAA receives a citation and his/her name is engraved on the wall of fame in the Institute.
This year, the two distinguished alumni were chosen from the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) of IIMB. The awards were given to: Shashi Sinha PGP '81 and Rajiv Maliwal PGP '85.
Mr Shashi Sinha- PGP 81 A CEO of Lodestar Universal India, he is a veteran in the media management and development industry. His eclectic career began with Parle Beverages as Product Manager. In the early 90's Shashi set up Lodestar, India's first specialized Media Planning and Buying outfit. He led the setting up of India's first media research and tools development cell at Lodestar. He was featured in 2012 as the top 50 most powerful people in the city of Mumbai in a survey done by DNA newspaper. He is actively involved and drives key industry bodies like the Advertising Standards Council of India, AAAI's - Indian Broadcasting Federation joint body on industry practices, Audit Bureau of Circulation and the Joint Industry Body set up to monitor TV measurement. Shashi is also an engineering graduate from IIT Kanpur.
Rajiv Maliwal- PGP '85
He is the Founder and Managing Partner of Sabre Partners India, a company that changed the landscape of the Indian banking sector substantially. He led the creation of the biggest banking role up that came to be known as Centurion Bank of Punjab and its subsequent sale to HDFC Bank, which is now considered one of Asia's best private equity deals. Prior to 2002, he was the Global Head of Private Equity at Standard Chartered PLC and has also worked with JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and Citibank. Rajiv has received several awards including the 'Best Worldwide GAMS Award' at Citibank, 'Outstanding Contribution to Privatization Award' at JP Morgan, 'Global Achievers Award' at ANZ Grindlays Bank to name a few. He is actively involved with academia and philanthropy.
