IIMB’s Data Centre & Analytics Lab to host two-day symposium on Business Analytics and Intelligence on June 11 & 12

On June 11 & 12, academics & industry practitioners will discuss 24 papers ranging from ensuring safer banking at ATMs to allocating gates to aircrafts at Indian airports using analytics

09 June, 2016, Bengaluru: The Data Centre and Analytics Lab, led by Professor U Dinesh Kumar at IIM Bangalore, will host a two-day symposium on Business Analytics and Intelligence, from June 11 to June 12, 2016 (Saturday & Sunday).

The symposium will see 24 presentations by students of the Business Analytics & Intelligence certificate programme on topics such as Optimization of Operation Theatre Utilization and Keeping Abreast with Surgery Trends and Technologies at Apollo Hospitals, Data Driven Analysis of Non-Revenue Water for BWSSB, Analyzing Social Media Debate and Market Sentiment Around the Maggi Fiasco, Optimal Gate Assignment at a Major Metro Airport in India, Customer Analytics for a Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC), Ensuring Safer Banking at ATMs Using Real-Time Intelligent Video Analytics, Marketing Campaign Effectiveness for Manipal Hospitals, Supply Chain Analytics – Developing a Model for Optimizing Sourcing Costs across Unilever Factories, and many more.

On the relevance of such a symposium, Professor Dinesh Kumar says: “The symposium showcases how analytics can be used for solving complex business problems faced by Indian organizations.  The students have worked on these problems for about six months to arrive at deployable solutions.”

IIMB’s DCAL has been set up to support interdisciplinary empirical research using data on primarily Indian as well as other emerging markets. The vision of this initiative is to be India’s most comprehensive research data source. The centre, under the guidance of Professor U. Dinesh Kumar, Chairperson, Data Centre and Analytics Lab and IIMB faculty and Chairperson, Decision Sciences and Information Systems, has hosted several other important symposia and conferences, the most recent being the third International Conference on Business Analytics and Intelligence (BAICONF 2015), held from December 17 to December 19, 2015.
