Assistant Professor
Strategy

Prateek is an Assistant Professor of Strategy at IIM Bangalore. He leads the Inclusive Markets Lab at IIMB, focusing on understanding how free and inclusive markets evolve, exploring the role of institutions like caste and guilds in the economy. He is an Affiliate Fellow at the Stigler Center at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Prateek has published his research in a variety of mediums – academic papers, reports and media articles. Over the years, Prateek has secured research grants from notable institutions like the UK's ESRC, India's ICSSR, and the Government of Uttar Pradesh. These grants have supported his work on the handicraft industry and the Kumbh Mela. He has also co-authored reports on journalism in the digital age and strategic vision for Karnataka in 2047.

In the classroom, Prateek teaches Strategic Stewardship to executives and MBA students and offers MOOCs on the evolution of business and markets through platforms like edX and Swayam. He also coordinates IIMB’s strategy PhD program. In 2023, he co-chaired the inaugural India Strategy Conference.

Beyond academia, Prateek is passionate about addressing social issues like health access, LGBT rights and hate speech. He co-founded Project Chhaav, which provided healthcare kits to over 120,000 rural health workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Action to Improve Representation Collective, which supports underrepresented scholars in management academia in India. He regularly delivers talks at universities, industry bodies, and conferences worldwide, and his work is frequently featured in national and international media outlets such as Bloomberg, Forbes India, Indian Express, The Hindu, and Times of India.

Prateek grew up in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, and holds a bachelor’s degree from IIT Delhi, along with a master’s and PhD in Management from UCL. During his PhD, he was a visiting researcher at Kellogg School of Management and taught at the LSE. His doctoral research explored the historical evolution of institutions like caste and merchant guilds, and he also worked as a research associate at the Stigler Center at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
