Centre for Teaching & Learning hosts exposure visit for CBSE school principals on 27th and 28th July

Attendees selected from private schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Sainik Schools and other government schools; 50 school principals from Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Pondicherry and Kerala attend the sessions

31 July, 2023, Bengaluru: The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at IIM Bangalore hosted an exposure visit for Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) school principals on 27th and 28th July 2023, at IIMB. The visit was the outcome of a pathbreaking initiative of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, to establish and enhance connections between the school and higher education systems. 

The event was attended by 50 school principals from Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Pondicherry and Kerala. The attendees were selected from different segments of CBSE-affiliated schools, including, private schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Sainik Schools, and other government schools.

Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director, IIM Bangalore, inaugurated the event and delivered the welcome address. He shared a glimpse of IIMB’s journey of becoming an Institute of National Importance, while touching upon the need to bridge the gap between school and higher education. “It is of utmost importance to pay attention to emerging concerns such as managing students’ physical and mental health, learning in the digital age, etc.”, he pointed out.

Prof. Sushanta Kumar Mishra, Chairperson, Centre for Teaching & Learning and faculty of the Organizational Behavior & Human Resources Management area of IIMB, also addressed the participants. Prof. Mishra is also Chairperson of C-DOCTA as well as Research and Publications at IIMB.

The event featured an overview of the different departments of IIMB. There were eight sessions led by functional heads of different centres and departments, on topics such as the programmes and courses offered at the institute; campus development activities; digital learning initiatives; teaching and learning-focused initiatives taken by CTL; the entrepreneurial ventures funded and supported by NSRCEL; the IIMB library and the importance of libraries as an evolving space for learning; the Alumni Relations department’s work on building a strong alumni network to implement initiatives; the range of programmes and events conducted by the Executive Education Programmes Office and their impact, etc. The event also included a campus tour for the participants.

On the second day of the event, Prof. U Dinesh Kumar, Dean, Faculty; Chairperson, Data Centre & Analytics Lab, and faculty of the Decision Sciences area of IIMB, addressed the participants and briefed them on the importance of case teaching methodology. The programme was concluded by Prof. Sushanta Kumar Mishra and he discussed the key takeaways from the two-day event and possible ways in which IIMB can contribute to, and collaborate with, school ecosystems. He also shared his insights on the role of an educator, especially the ones who go on to become School Heads and Leaders.
