IIM Bangalore-IIT Bombay team win first prize at Al Gore Sustainable Technology Venture Competition 2009

The IIM Bangalore-IIT Bombay team comprising  Abhijit Parashar, PGP2, IIM Bangalore (proprietor and team leader); Roshan Agarwal, PGP2, IIM Bangalore;  Abhishek Humbad, PGP1, IIM Bangalore;  Gaurav Parashar, Senior Undergrad, IIT Bombay, won the first prize in The Al Gore Sustainable Technology Venture CompetitionTM 2009, held on November 6-7, 2009 at IIT Kharagpur, West Bengal, India.

The team was awarded for the business plan for their entrepreneurial venture - Energy and Carbon Productivity Solutions (ECPS). This is a product-based technology firm focused on providing smart IT solutions to the clean technology sector in emerging markets. ECPS has identified four key focus sectors which are critical to solving the energy and climate crisis in the coming decade - smart motor systems, intelligent logistics, improved building technology and smarter grids.

ECPS is strategically positioned to serve the market gap unfilled by the conventional consulting model which is unable to serve the non compliance energy and carbon markets. In particular, ECPS believes that technology has the power to complement what consultants and auditors are doing in this market, in a more efficient and cost effective manner.

The Al Gore Sustainable Technology Venture CompetitionTM Asia's first and most prestigious sustainable/clean technology business plan competition, founded in 2007, is the brainchild of Oopali Operajita, CEO, Cicero, A Trans National Advisory, a Senior Political and International Affairs Adviser to several of India's prominent political leaders and a former Distinguished Faculty Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University, USA.

ASSOCHAM and IIT Kharagpur were the Official Partners of The Al Gore Sustainable Technology Venture Competition 2009. Mercedes-Benz India was the Official Sponsor.
