In the recent International Finance Conference held at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta during December 3-5, 2009 Professor Pulak Ghosh's paper received the 3rd best paper award.  The paper titled 'A Bayesian Term Structure Modeling using heavy-tailed distributions', is authored by Carlos Abanto, Victor Lachos and Pulak Ghosh.

Professor Pulak Ghosh also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of the American statistical Association (JASA). JASA is the most prestigious journal published by the American Statistical Association, the main professional body for statisticians in the United States.

Professor Ghosh's key specializations are in various fields  including Quantitative Finance, Econometrics, Social Network data, Political Science, Biostatistics, Bayesian Statistics, Multivariate Longitudinal Survival Data, Non Parametric Bayesian Spatial and Spatiotemporal Modeling, Change-Point problem among others.

Professor Ghosh has made significant contribution in the Cancer incidence and mortality rate.

The National Cancer Institute of USA (NCI) recognized Professor Ghosh's 'Bayesian joinpoint model, statistical estimates of the joinpoints and the regression slopes' as a significant contribution to the literature of cancer trend age-adjusted analysis.  NCI is also developing a software based on the method developed by Professor Ghosh which will be put on NCI website and will be a standard method of analysis of cancer trends in USA.

Professor Pulak Ghosh's paper proposing the above model titled 'Bayesain Analysis of Cancer Rates from SEER Program Using Parametric and Semi-parametric Joinpoint Regression Models' was published in Journal of the American Statistical Association in 2009 June issue.

Prior to joining IIMB in July 2009 Professor Pulak Ghosh served as Associate Director, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, USA; Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics, Georgia State University, Associate Professor at Emory University, USA. He had also served on National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant review panel. Professor Ghosh is a visiting faculty at many national and international institutions.
