DCAL gathers data experts to evaluate AI models and agents at 11th BAI Conference

3-day symposium concludes with top honors awarded for Best Paper in academic and industry categories

16 December, 2024, Bengaluru: The Data Centre and Analytics Lab (DCAL) at IIM Bangalore organized the 11th International Conference on Business Analytics and Intelligence, from 9 to 11 December, at IIMB.

The annual symposium—a landmark event among academicians, practitioners and Big Data professionals—advanced solution-building for complex domain and sector specific problems in the field of analytics. In response to the call for abstracts, the conference received over 250 submissions. Of these, 150 were carefully selected, and more than 120 papers were presented over the three-day event. The conference attracted 350+ participants for paper presentations, workshops, and panel discussions to address emerging concepts in data science. A pre-conference workshop on ‘Transforming Possibilities: Harnessing Generative AI with LLMs, GPT and ChatGPT’, was held on 7 and 8 December, which served as a precursor to the main event.

Under the guidance of Prof. U Dinesh Kumar, Chair, DCAL, the conference featured an exceptional lineup of 14 speakers from academia and industry to share their proficiencies on topics including—

Democratization of AI: Impact on Business, Economy and Society; Technology Intelligence for the Cloud Era – Powered by FinOps and AI; AI in Modern Retail: Perspectives from the Frontline; AI Applications in Healthcare; Enhancing Alarm Intelligence through Machine Learning; Intelligent Supply Chain Networks: Integrating AI and OR for Predictive and Prescriptive Supply Chain Optimization; Generative AI for Enterprise Transformation with Case Studies; A Prescriptive Problem and Solution Methodologies of Indian Urban Road Transport Organizations for Minimizing the Operational Cost of Intracity Buses; Enterprise Applications of AI Beyond Tableau and PowerBI; AI in Marketing & use cases of Tata Consumer Products Limited; Computer Vision in Retail; KPIs, Code, and Chaos: Bringing an Algorithm to Life; and Generative AI – Opportunities and Challenges.

The 3-day symposium culminated with a valedictory ceremony, during which three outstanding studies were honored with Best Paper Awards.

Best Paper Award – Industry: ‘Automated Extraction of Startup Performance Data from Pitch Decks’ by Sruti Kannan, Divya Eshwar, Guhan Chandrasekaran, Bhaskar Bhowmick, and C.S. Kumar.

Best Paper Award – Academia: ‘Transformative AI for OPD: Enhancing Efficiency and Productivity’ by Dhananjaya Bedkani Linganaik, Sanjeeth Veigas, and Vishnu Kumar Jakhoria.

Highly Commended Paper – Academia: ‘Context-Enhanced Contrastive Search for Improved LLM Text Generation’ by Jaydip Sen, Rohit Pandey, and Hetvi Waghela.
