IIMB’s Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL)
Introduction
With the goal of co-creating and disseminating knowledge about effective teaching and learning in higher education, particularly in the management domain, the Centre for Teaching and Learning takes a holistic view of the evolving environments, guided by not just theories but also informed by and anchored in global as well as local practices and experiences. It closely studies the needs of each of the stakeholders- students, academics, industry, policy-making bodies, and society at large, and works towards providing integrated solutions to aid and evaluate various teaching and pedagogical requirements in higher educational institutions.
CTL is actively involved/engaged in understanding, designing/developing, implementing and documenting various teaching pedagogies and facets of learning. It is also emerging as an active voice and participant for framing the future of higher education practices in India.
A center of excellence at IIMB, CTL is established with a mandate to develop and deliver quality content and practices in the following areas.

Facilitating the publication of management cases in HBR : Case studies capture management dilemmas from organizations and are an effective teaching tool for management institutions across the world. The faculty members from IIMB aids creation of relevant and bestselling case studies and teaching notes across diverse areas like Strategy, Organizational Behavior and Human Resources Management, Marketing, Production and Operations, Finance and Accounting, Communicvation and Public Policy.
CTL provides end to end support to case authors in processing the cases from submission to publication which includes formatting, copyediting and double-blind peer review.
The cases processed by CTL are published in the Harvard Business Review, a leading management publication and features many global best sellers.

Training of doctoral scholars and new faculty members : CTL recognizes the importance of both research and effective teaching and provides support in this direction to doctoral students from leading institutions of higher education from across the country as well as young faculty members of IIMB. The training programmes conducted by senior and distinguished faculty members of IIMB demonstrate and highlight various teaching pedagogy like lectures, quantitative methods, effective use of technology, case studies and simulation along with other essential skills necessary in for management educators.
In the process, CTL acts as a catalyst in their transition from being new in academia to becoming effective teachers, with year around mentorship, feedback systems and student and peer evaluations.

Faculty development programmes : CTL has also started collaborating with HEIs to deliver immersive knowledge sharing initiatives that feature lectures, demonstrations and workshops by IIMB’s expert faculty members. The programmes deep dive into the selection and evaluation of teaching methods as well as the design and implementation of pedagogy best suited for the needs of the recipient institution.
CTL is also committed to bridging the gap between school education and higher education and especially curated intervention in this regard are its orientation programmes and visits to IIMB for the school principals.

Academic leadership programmes : NEP 2020 highlights the role of institutes of national importance in imparting effective training to potential and current/existing leaders of HEIs, supported by the government as well as the private ones. CTL, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Government of India, conducts programmes that are essential for the leaders of educational institutions, equipping them to ensure effective teaching, progressive methodology, efficient administration and holistic contribution to society. Immersive programs such as the Academic Leadership Programme and the Nurturing Future Leadership Programme, developed by CTL, feature in-depth discussions on institution building and leadership. These discussions are facilitated through experiential activities, workshops, lectures, and panel discussions led by IIMB’s senior faculty, key stakeholders, and external resource persons who possess experience in industry or societal impact.

Foundations of management : The center delivers a multidisciplinary weeklong programme that introduces the foundations of management studies to the aspiring graduate students from diverse backgrounds nominated by their respective universitates. The programme bridges the gap between undergraduate and postgraduate learning and hones pedagogy best suited for the age group and stage of learning the students are in.
Objectives of the Centre
- To facilitate the development of teaching content such as teaching cases and teaching notes.
- To launch initiatives for the benefit of the teaching-learning community.
- To create platforms for discussions around effective and emerging pedagogical practices.
- To evolve measures to evaluate teaching performance and learning.
- To provide teaching-related support and inputs to faculty members and doctoral students.
- To act as a national resource for improving the standards of teaching in institutes of higher education.
