Eyeing hyper growth with hyper automation

Manish Bharti

In EPGP seminar, UiPath’s Manish Bharti explains why automation is a C-level priority

17 September, 2020:  Using a video to set the context of his talk on automation and how it frees up human beings to think, strategize, dream big, create amazing new things and enjoy life, Manish Bharti, President, India and South-Asia, UiPath, explained the many ways in which his company offers digital assistance in the form of robots.

He addressed students of the Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP) at IIM Bangalore on the topic ‘Art of Automation’, in an interaction as part of the EPGP Seminar Series, this afternoon.

At the onset, Manish recalled his own six-week stint on the IIMB campus when he signed up for the Advanced Management Programme, for senior executives, in 2011, and said he made wonderful friends and developed a phenomenal network thanks to the programme, and hoped the students of the one-year EPGP at IIMB would enjoy the similar privileges.

“Organizations rely on automation to be competitive and profitable. Over the last five years, automation is the fastest growing software segment,” he said, defining hyper-automation as an end-to-end automation of work, using AI and ML, with minimal human intervention.

“Automation has become a C-level priority,” he observed, adding that automation enhances job satisfaction by relegating mundane work to bots. “Automation has created 60 million jobs,” he said, citing WEF’s Future of Jobs report.

Defining RPA (robotic process automation), Manish listed its six key features – from mimicking human action to working 24x7 without making errors.

Power of bots

Listing the benefits that RPA brings to the business environment, he spoke of rapid ROI, easier scaling, improved accuracy, and more.

While banking, insurance, health, and travel firms use RPA, he said all industries and sectors with processes that are repetitive, data intensive, rule-driven and voluminous can benefit from RPA.

The UiPath journey

“India was where the stars aligned for us, in 2013, after our beginnings in Romania,” he said. “In 2016, we set up operations in a small co-working space. Customer acquisition was tough as competition was high,” he added, pointing out that Bengaluru has their three key focus areas –engineering and development, global product support, and professional services.

As India is the IT backbone of the world (with 67 per cent share of global outsourcing), UiPath’s focus is on this market, he said, sharing highlights from his company’s customer acquisition journey, including Paradise Biryani, Future Generali, Federal Bank among others.

Democratizing tech

“We believe in democratizing the tech space – that holds the key to our growth,” he said, citing their work in education with UiPath Academy, NASSCOM, women in tech forum,  etc.

He also explained how UiPath helped generate electronic passes during the lockdown in Mumbai, working with government, and touched upon the work of the UiPath Foundation and its contribution during COVID.
