IIMB celebrates International Dance Day
BENGALURU, 29 APRIL, 2025: Eleven mesmerizing performances featuring talented artistes, from the IIMB community and beyond, marked the very first edition of International Dance Day on campus, this afternoon.
Conceptualized by Ms. Pooja Balasubramanya, compered by Dr. Sudha Rao and supported by the IIMB community, the event not only showcased the wonderful talent in the IIMB community, but also gave the audience an opportunity to be part of what the Chief Guest, Guru Karishma Ahuja and the Guest Speaker, Dr. Truptha Naik, both accomplished dancers themselves, described as “a divine experience”.
The event began with lamp lighting by the Dean Administration, Prof. Jayadev M, Prof. Sreelata Jonnalagedda, invited guests and the artistes and an invocation.
The opening performance was a Geetham, by young and expressive Manvi B N and Riyanshi Vyas. The Natesha Kauthuvam by Lakshmi Menon was followed by a graceful Tarana by Barnali Debnath. Anupama Gurumurthy, who was taking the stage after a hiatus of 25 years, performed Nataraja Kauthuvam with grace and poise. Five young artistes -- Sahitee Kalyani, Akshata S Girisagar, Ankitha S Girisagar, Vanisha K.S, and Poorvah Shekar performed Tarangam (Govardhana Giridhara) to thunderous applause. This was followed by an Odissi performance by Guru Karishma Ahuja.
Nayanika Chakraborty’s Kathak performance to the ghazal ,‘aaj jaane ki zidd’, was followed by a Padam (Purandaradasa Kriti) by Pooja Balasubramanya. Bidula Basu’s Devi Stotra was enchanting and Navya Surendran’s Thillana – Dhanashree – was energetic. The final performance, Tarana – Chaturang, by Prof. Sreelata Jonnalagedda had the audience spellbound. The event concluded with a beautiful Mangalam and a promise of more to come in the next edition.
