27 February, 2024, Bengaluru: The Sustainability Taskforce at IIM Bangalore recently hosted 235 students from The Samhita Academy, a middle school in Bangalore, in a bid to ignite the spark of sustainability in young hearts through an art competition. Prof. Haritha Saranga, Chairperson, Sustainability Taskforce and faculty of the Production & Operations Management area of IIMB, along with a team, had conducted a series of environmental sensitization sessions at the school in October, November and December of 2023, to instill a deep-seated understanding of mindful consumption for a sustainable future. The art contest was part of the program.

On 16th February, 121 Grade 6 students visited the IIM Bangalore campus, followed by 114 Grade 8 students on 23rd February. In IIM Bangalore's verdant campus, the school children embarked on a journey of creativity and reflection, guided by the theme of mindful consumption. Armed with brushes and palettes, they translated their thoughts and aspirations onto canvases, depicting the importance of conscious choices in safeguarding the environment.

From vivid portrayals of eco-friendly practices to thought-provoking representations of the consequences of unsustainable habits, the artworks showcased the depth of their insights and the power of their imagination.

Dr. Haritha Saranga, the guiding force behind these initiatives, emphasized the importance of instilling the value of sustainability. "Sustainability is not just a concept; it is a way of life", she  remarked. "Through these sessions, we aim to empower students with the knowledge and mindset needed to make informed decisions for a sustainable future."

Through collaborative endeavors like these, IIM Bangalore reaffirms its commitment to nurturing future leaders who are not only proficient in business acumen but also dedicated to making a positive impact on society and the environment.
