What has been the impact of real time tracking in incidences of criminal activities in Indian Smart Cities especially crime against women?

Abstract_ext
Urban life poses several risks with regard to the safety and security of women. It is important for urban policies to be guided by women’s perspectives, to provide not just a safe environment but a whole ecosystem that tracks and facilitates women safety.

Conventional policing focuses mainly on the physical presence of police officers in the field, but advancement in technical interventions with smart city initiatives introduces evidence-based policing which involves cameras, video or drone surveillance and other IOT based tracking mechanisms to detect, defend, mitigate and prevent crimes. Predictive policing is another aspect of safety which is part of smart city projects, “Can we predict the crime and hence prevent it leading to overall reduction in the crime rates” is the question for innovation. These initiatives of safety are very integral part of smart city projects. Impact of these initiatives in reducing the crimes in smart cities specially crime related to women is an important aspect of understanding the usefulness of these initiatives as well as improving these initiatives for future.
