IIMB

Ankita Dash and Rahul Singh do IIMB proud

01 JULY, 2017: IIMB’s Doctoral Programme scholars Ankita Dash and Rahul Singh are the recipients of the Tata Motors Fellowship Award instituted in June this year.

The Fellowship aims to attract the best talent in the country to the IIMB Doctoral Programme in in Management, with the objective of intensifying the academic cooperation between Tata Motors Ltd. and IIM Bangalore, and supporting world-class innovative and impact-creating work in the areas of Sustainable Development. The Fellowship is applicable for the students who are in the 4th and 5th year of the FPM Programme for the respective academic years.

Ankita Dash holds a Master’s degree in Engineering from the University of Maryland College (USA) and is in the 5th year of the FPM Programme. The broad area of her research is Global Value Chains and the participation of firms in India in their sectoral Global Value Chains. Her thesis is based on the premise that Global Value Chains are excellent tools for ensuring sustainable development, both at the country level as well as the firm level. Ankita’s study focuses on the broad areas outlined by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Rahul Singh holds a B.Tech degree in Mining Engineering from IIT BHU, Varanasi, and is in the 4th year of the Doctoral Programme at IIMB. His first research project studies the effect of  domestic regulations that are restrictive to trade flows on the productivity, mark-ups and prices of Indian firms.

The second research project studies the effect of Chinese import competition on labor market adjustments in India, the results of which would analyse the impact on wage inequality, unemployment and the use of flexible workforce in India.

Finally, his third area of research attempts to understand the environmental impact of increased import competition from China using satellite imagery data. The paper will estimate changes in air quality at the district level in India on account of increased Chinese imports. Rahul's research agenda closely relates to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
