24 August, 2022, Bengaluru: The Centre for Software and Information Technology Management (CSITM) at IIM Bangalore, in collaboration with the Association for Information Systems – India Chapter (INAIS), will host the Information Systems Curriculum and Pedagogy Practicum on 26th and 27th August (Friday and Saturday) 2022.
On 26th August, there will be a keynote address by Prof. Raghav Rao, University of Texas at San Antonio and a panel discussion on ‘Digital Fluency: Rethinking IS in the Management Curriculum’. The workshop will be co-chaired by: Prof. Sujeet Kumar Sharma, Secretary, AIS India Chapter, Indian Institute of Management Trichy, and Prof. Shankhadeep Banerjee, Chairperson, Centre for Software & Information Technology Management and faculty in the Information Systems area, IIMB.
The facilitators include Advisor Prof. Saji Mathew (IIT Madras), Prof. Rahul Dé (IIM Bangalore), Prof. Priya Seetharaman (IIM Calcutta), Prof. Sumeet Gupta (IIM Raipur), Prof. Sujeet Kumar Sharma (IIM Trichy), Prof. Jang Bahadur Singh (IIM Trichy), and Prof. Laxmi Gunupudi (adjunct faculty at IIM Bangalore).
In the recent past, there have been many academic debates questioning the role of IS courses in the Management curriculum, despite the growing industry expectation for technology-savvy business executives. The workshop will act as a step towards critically reflecting on the reasons for this paradox, while providing a platform for early-career and prospective Information Systems academics to find ways to bridge this gap, to interact, conceptualize, design and develop graduate-level courses.
Through this practicum, participants will be able to: become aware of opportunities and challenges for graduate-level Information Systems courses; chalk out alternative course structures and pedagogies - particularly for core MBA/MS level IS courses; bridge the divide between technology-oriented and management-focused IS courses; be cognizant of digital tools and applications that can help enhance student engagement – at the same time making teaching an intellectually stimulating activity, and appreciate the purpose, suitability and effectiveness of different forms of evaluation.
