IIM Bangalore community celebrates India’s 76th Republic Day with zeal and pride

Patriotic songs, dance and street play mark the celebrations topped by an inspiring address by IIMB Director Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan

26 January, 2025, Bengaluru: “As we celebrate this milestone of India’s 75 years as a Republic, the focus goes to many other events around the world. Election results and policy actions of other countries call into question the global commitment to many values that we hold dear here in India in the context of national governance. However, whatever example other countries may set for us, we need to reinforce our own Constitutional values. Every country should prioritize their own interest”, said Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director, IIM Bangalore, during the celebrations marking the momentous occasion of India’s Republic Day, on 26th January 2025.

Like every year, this year too, the entire IIM Bangalore community – students, faculty, staff, alumni and officers, along with their families – came together to celebrate India’s 76th Republic Day. Prof. RT Krishnan unfurled the national flag and addressed the IIM Bangalore community, after playing of the National Anthem, a proud moment for all.

Prof. RT Krishnan’s Republic Day address inspired, and at the same time educated, everyone present. While stating that changes in global geopolitics have had an impact on Government and policy, he said that the challenges in the future of management education are tied to growth of the Indian economy. “Our students have the potential to drive growth, despite the challenges.”

Highlighting that economic growth is not the same as human development, he added that India needs to avoid the middle-income trap in order to compete globally. “Another cause for concern is that women’s participation in workforce is still very low. The country has to boost its energy efficiency. And all these are within the ambit of our education and research. We have to invest more and make optimum use of latest technology. IIMB’s MBA programmes are designed to groom business leaders of tomorrow who can convert all these challenges into opportunities, ensure rigorous and original thinking and redefine the industrial landscape. With human creativity and ingenuity, we can realize our dream of 'Viksit Bharat'."

The day was filled with pride and aspirations, and some powerful performances.

The students of the music club ‘Dhwani’ put up a patriotic song performance, followed by a flute performance, both completely engaging the audience.

There was a street play by students of the drama club ‘Goonj’, endorsing the Government’s ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign, with the clear message reminding us that we should not treat that as a slogan only, but as our responsibility.

The next offering, a medley of patriotic songs by IIMB staff, was a powerful, soulful and melodious performance which touched the hearts of all present.

A creative and energetic dance performance by students of ‘Taal’, the dance club of IIMB, had the audience cheering.

A song performance by Abhipsa also enthralled the community.

Col. (Retd.) S.D. Aravendan, Chief Administrative Officer, moderated the event celebrating and honoring our nation and our sovereignty.
