IIM Bangalore to launch the TCI-IIMB Supply Chain Sustainability Lab on 28th April
In partnership with the Transport Corporation of India, the lab aims to advance Sustainable Supply Chain Management in India through research and consulting services
21 April, 2023, Bengaluru: In its constant endeavour to reinvent itself and stay ahead in the area of research application, IIM Bangalore is set to launch the TCI-IIMB Supply Chain Sustainability Lab (TCI-IIMB SCSL), a new sustainability lab at the campus, dedicated to the area of Supply Chain Management. The lab will be inaugurated on 28th April 2023 (Friday), in Classroom N001 on the IIMB campus, at 4.00 pm. The lab is being set up in partnership with the Transport Corporation of India (TCI).

This new lab is a testament of IIMB’s commitment to academic excellence, research and innovation in the areas of Sustainability and Supply Chain. It will be a vital resource for the academic community and the wider business fraternity.
The lab will be inaugurated by renowned Indian cardiac surgeon Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Chairperson, Board of Governors, IIMB, and IIMB alumnus Anand Chennira (PGP 1997), Chief Strategy Officer at SUN Mobility, in the presence of Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director, IIM Bangalore, Vineet Aggarwal, Managing Director of Transport Corporation of India, and other dignitaries.
The inauguration will also witness the launch of an online transportation emission calculation tool, available to all transporters and shippers, to calculate the total GHG emissions from freight transportation. This tool covers all modes of transport: road, rail, air and sea, and will be available in multiple Indian languages in the future.
The lab will provide a platform for researchers, students and faculty members to collaborate, develop and share knowledge, and work towards the common goal of advancing supply chain sustainability practises. Through the lab, IIMB will work to foster partnerships with industry leaders, government agencies and other academic institutions. It will also provide opportunities for students to gain practical experience through internships, research projects and other programmes.
The TCI-IIMB SCSL aims to advance Sustainable Supply Chain Management in India through research and consulting services. The lab plans to conduct research in areas such as decarbonization, circular economy and sustainable procurement, and publish white papers on Sustainable Supply Chain Management topics. It will also offer consulting services on carbon-related mapping, measurement, mitigation and management. Moreover, it plans to provide certification and assessment services, such as supplier sustainability assessment. It has already initiated research projects, white papers and case studies, and is partnering with other organizations.
