Talk to be delivered by former Foreign Secretary of India, Nirupama Rao

13 October, 2025, Bengaluru: The 52nd Foundation Day of Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) will be celebrated on 28th October 2025, with speeches, awards, and more. The IIMB community of students, faculty, former faculty, alumni, staff and officers will be part of the celebrations.

The highlight of the event will be the Foundation Day Lecture on, ‘Beyond Borders: Preparing for a World in Transition’ by Nirupama Rao, former Foreign Secretary of India, apart from addresses by Prof. U Dinesh Kumar, Director In-charge, IIM Bangalore, and Prof. Malavika R. Harita, Founder & CEO, Brand Circle, and Member, IIMB Board of Governors.

The Foundation Day celebrations will also see Long Service Awards being presented to non-teaching staff of the Institute. The recipients of the Alumni Service Award (ASA) for 2025 will also be felicitated. The award, instituted in 2023 as part of IIMB’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, honors graduates who have made significant and enduring contributions to the Institute, the IIMB Alumni Association (IIMBAA), and the broader alumni ecosystem. Each recipient receives a citation in recognition of their service and commitment. The recipients of the IIM Bangalore Alumni Service Award for 2025 are Navin Kumar, PGP 1999; Karan Bhagat, PGP 2001, and Michael Sequeira, PGP 2010.

On 27th October, scholarships will be presented to students of the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) by the alumni of the programme. The afternoon session will include a cultural programme, with participation from students as well as faculty and staff, along with their family members. The month has also seen various sporting activities being held as part of IIMB’s Foundation Day celebrations, which are not only engaging but also inclusive, wherein the activities are for diverse age groups, with prizes for the winners.

To mark its Foundation Day, IIMB will also felicitate faculty, officers, staff, consultants and their family members with the ‘Young Achievement Award’, for their outstanding feats in academics, sports and arts.

About the speaker: Nirupama Rao is a former Indian diplomat. She was Foreign Secretary to the Government of India (2009-2011). She was the first woman spokesperson (2001-02) of the Indian Foreign Office. She served as India's first woman High Commissioner (Ambassador) to Sri Lanka (2004-2006) and to the People's Republic of China (2006-2009). She was Ambassador of India to the United States from 2011 to 2013. In retirement, she has taught at Brown and Columbia Universities, was a Fellow at The New School in New York, and a Public Policy Fellow at the Wilson Center in Washington D.C. She is also the Vice Chairman of Tibet House, New Delhi, the Cultural Centre of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Her book titled, ‘The Fractured Himalaya: India Tibet China 1949-1962’, was published in 2021.
