DPIIT adopts IIMB & TCI’s ‘Transportation Emissions Measurement Tool (TEMT)’ for national use

Platform becomes only ISO 14083–aligned freight emissions tool officially endorsed by the Government of India
4 September, 2025, Bengaluru: The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, has formally adopted the Transportation Emissions Measurement Tool (TEMT), developed by the TCI–IIMB Supply Chain Sustainability Lab. The tool is now hosted on DPIIT’s official website, marking its significance as a national resource that enables accurate measurement, reporting, and management of freight-related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The adoption represents the culmination of nearly two years of close engagement with DPIIT, leading to its formal acceptance. Together with adoption by the DPIIT and the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP), TEMT is now the only tool in India that is aligned with ISO 14083 standards and officially endorsed by the Government of India.
In December 2024, the TCI–IIMB Supply Chain Sustainability Lab at IIM Bangalore, founded in collaboration with Transport Corporation of India Ltd (TCI) and IIMB’s Supply Chain Management Centre, became the first organization in India to achieve ISO 14083 certification for TEMT. The recognition validated the platform’s capability to deliver globally benchmarked, scientifically rigorous emission measurements across multiple modes of transport in an innovative, user-friendly format.
Dr. Aditya Gupta, Chief Operating Officer, SCMC, IIMB, said: “This milestone reflects the strength of our partnership with TCI. From initial ideation to continuous refinement, the perseverance, trust, and encouragement of the TCI team, particularly Mr. Rajkiran, have been critical in transforming this vision into a reality”.
The next step, he added, will be to actively disseminate TEMT among key stakeholders across the logistics ecosystem, i.e., government departments, industry associations, truck associations, and other such agencies to drive its wider usage and adoption.
About the Transportation Emissions Measurement Tool (TEMT)
TEMT is a comprehensive online platform designed to measure emissions across all modes of transportation. It integrates India-specific emission factors, validated through ISO 14083 certification, ensuring data accuracy and relevance. The tool allows users to calculate emissions for both past and future shipments and compare emissions between different transport modes for a given origin-destination pair. It also offers users the flexibility to build customized transportation chains, with all past entries securely stored in the cloud for easy monthly tracking and year-over-year comparison. The platform is commodity-agnostic, meaning it applies to all types of shipments, and outputs are available in PDF and CSV formats for ease of reporting and analysis.
