Centre for Teaching & Learning to host Doctoral Consortium on Teaching in two batches in 2024

The sessions for the first and second batches will be held from 15th to 19th January 2024 and from 5th to 9th February 2024, respectively

10 November, 2023, Bengaluru: The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore will host its annual five-day on-campus Doctoral Consortium on Teaching for PhD students at management schools/institutes/departments, in two batches in 2024, to accommodate the growing demand. 

Important Dates

The sessions for the first batch will be held from 15th to 19th January 2024, while for the second batch, they will be held from 5th to 9th February 2024.

The last date for the submission of nominations is 10th December 2023. The names of shortlisted candidates will be released by the third week of December 2023.

Overview of Sessions

Being effective as an academic requires an aptitude for research and a deep understanding on teaching and learning practices. Recognizing this need, CTL will be hosting the Doctoral Consortium. The centre has been organizing teaching workshops and consortiums for PhD students from other IIMs and universities for the last four years. The participants have found these sessions extremely useful in transitioning into their new roles as faculty members in academic institutions.

The consortium will be led by faculty at IIM Bangalore and other experts with prolific experience in teaching participants from various institutes, industries, government bodies and agencies, and the development sector, in India and abroad. 

The consortium will include a wide range of interactive and hands-on sessions, with the aim of introducing the participants to relevant aspects of teaching. Some of the themes would include: Drivers of Learning; Pedagogical Approaches; Course Design; Classroom Management; Overcoming Challenges in Teaching, and Preparing Online Courses, Executive Education Programmes, etc.

Application Process

Nominations sent by Directors, Chairpersons, or Heads of Doctoral Programmes from institutes and universities would be considered. The nominations can be sent through official e-mail IDs to the IIMB-CTL ID, that is, ctl@iimb.ac.in.

Nominators must indicate nominees’ preferred batch in the e-mail. The final allocation of batches will be decided by the organizers and released along with the names of shortlisted candidates. 

It is mandatory for nominated participants to submit a statement of purpose with the e-mail. 

Candidates in the concluding stages of their doctoral programme (Year 4 & above) are preferred.

Fee Structure

The participants of the consortium will be charged a programme fee of ₹ 10,000/- (including GST) per participant.
