Debates, discussions and dance at EPGP ‘Sparsh’

Five batches of IIMB's one year, full time residential Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP), had their reunion on December 22, 2013.

Initiated and organized by EPGP 2013, the reunion called 'EPGP Sparsh' challenged both muscle power and brain power of the alumni with a host of events ranging from discussions to dance. Welcoming the alumni, Mr. Rakesh Godhwani, Head, Alumni Office, IIMB, said: "The most important stakeholders of IIMB are the alumni, so do please continue to engage with us and support us in any way possible."

Professor G Shainesh, Chairperson, EPGP, echoed the thoughts of the alumni when he said: "It is always great to come back to one's alma mater." He urged the alumni to share specific ideas in shaping and reviewing the core courses offered by the programme.

IIMB's Director In-charge Professor Devanath Tirupati said: "Active alumni participation keeps the IIMB brand shining." He said the programme should go global and encourage exchange study. "Though the idea to go global is in the nascent stage, we have been steadily increasing the number of B-schools in our international immersion list. There should be a choice of schools and IIMB students should opt for schools in Europe, North America and South America," he added, hoping that reputed schools across the world would soon be able to offer a few electives as online courses for IIMB's EPGP students.

Professor R Srinivas, Professor Sreelata Jonnalagedda, Professor D V R Seshadri and Professor Ramya Ranganathan were also present at the EPGP reunion.

At a panel discussion, a few alumni described their job profiles before and after signing up for the programme. Mr. Anant Chandramouli (EPGP 2009) shared his experiences of working at Infosys for 18 years. Mr. Shailesh Kumar (EPGP 2012) spoke about the valuable take-away from the programme in his new role at Hewlett-Packard. When asked about what he would like to change about the programme, Mr. Srinivas (EPGP 2009) said: "The learning should be aligned with industry demands. Topics like 'decision making' and 'negotiation' should also be included." Mr. Sripal Deshpande (EPGP 2009) said: "The course can be tweaked and aligned to expectations. A specialization on entrepreneurship will surely put EPGP on the global map." Moderating the panel discussion, Professor R. Srinivasan said, "EPGP should broad-size one's knowledge."

Professor DVR Seshadri urged the students, past and present, to follow the '7 Path Philosophy' - be authentic; go where your heart takes you; do your best work; be kind to everyone; write a diary; choose friends wisely; cherish small pleasures in life, and focus on quality rather than quantity of life.

"This year was the largest reunion in the history of IIMB, where 250 families of alumni from 5 different batches came together. It's sad that the sun did set this evening," said Suryanarayana P (EPGP 2012).
