Fifth batch of EPGP commences at IIMB

Fifth batch of EPGP commences at IIMB

The fifth batch of the one-year full-time residential Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP 2013-14), was inaugurated at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) on April 10, 2013.

Dr. Linus Von Castlemur, Ambassador of Switzerland to India & Bhutan, was the Chief Guest and delivered the keynote address on the topic "The new phase and the new challenges of globalization: Swiss answers and strategies".

At the outset, Professor M Jayadev, Chairperson Admissions welcomed the students and provided a brief profile of the new batch.

In his address, Dr Castlemur stated that globalization was a fact for all nations, yet there were divergent as well as common challenges for the North and South hemispheres. He outlined six pillars of success in the Swiss navigation of the new globalized world: open and liberal labour market; focus on good university and vocational education; favourable environment for research & development and protection of intellectual property rights; immigration rules that facilitate work permits and residence for professionals and specialists; nurturing of the banking and financial services sector; quality of infrastructure and continuous improvements to standards of living.

Speaking on the occasion, IIMB Director Professor Pankaj Chandra said, "EPGP is a unique programme which brings managers with significant work experience onto the IIMB campus - managers who then benefit from IIMB's rich educational resources and equip themselves for leadership positions. The programme has evolved significantly over the past four years since inception. The focus on emerging markets is a distinctive feature of the EPGP which contributes to the students being able to confidently operate in a global environment."

Delivering the vote of thanks, Professor G Shainesh, Chairperson EPGP commented: "The EPGP is incredibly demanding - it represents a huge investment in time, in intellectual energy and in family upheaval. The people who enter the programme are ambitious and are risk-takers - they are looking to challenge themselves, to add academic rigour to their existing experience, to renew themselves, not just to support career change."

Comprising 63 students, the fifth batch includes professionals from industries as diverse as Finance; Management Consulting; Manufacturing, Aerospace, Automotive; FMCG & Retail; Defence Services; IT & Telecom. The average work experience of the cohort is 10 years, with around two years of international exposure. The batch includes seven women students.

As a prelude to demanding classroom sessions, the EPGP students undergo an on-campus orientation as well as an outbound learning programme.

The commencement of the fifth batch starts on a positive note with excellent placement results for the 74 students of the fourth batch of EPGP who recently graduated, with 90% of the students placed by Convocation Day. The positions offered and the compensation levels were strong with some students achieving compensation packages benchmarked to international levels. With increased focus in the curriculum on key areas of top management, the challenging and globally-oriented programme equips students to take up responsible positions at senior management levels.

The full-time Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP) is an intensive one-year residential programme created specifically for professionals with remarkable track records and five to twelve years of work experience.

The composition of the EPGP batch ensures a diverse cohort of participants with wide-ranging skills, backgrounds and experiences. Learning through peer group exchange and knowledge sharing becomes one of the most powerful aspects of the programme.
