“HR should evolve and adapt”: Dr Pon Mohaideen Pitchai at the launch of his book ‘HR Seen & Unseen – Untold Stories’ at IIM Bangalore

Book, launched by IIMB Director, emphasizes the need for innovative practices and strategic people management

06 MAY, 2024, Bengaluru: The Organizational Behavior & Human Resources Management area at IIM Bangalore hosted the launch of a book titled, ‘HR Seen & Unseen – Untold Stories’, by Dr. Pon Mohaideen Pitchai, this afternoon.

The book was launched in the presence of its author Dr. Pon Mohaideen Pitchai; Professor Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director, IIM Bangalore; Prof. Gopal Mahapatra, Chairperson and faculty, Organizational Behavior & Human Resources Management area of IIMB, as well as other faculty, students and staff of IIMB.

In his welcome address, Prof. Gopal Mahapatra offered a brief introduction of the guests – the IIMB Director, Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan, and the book’s author, Dr. Pitchai.

The book includes perspectives on corporate experiences, HR processes and HR implementation, coupled with case studies, solutions, lessons learnt and best practices, based on the author’s own industry experience.

Dr. Pon Mohaideen Pitchai has 40 years of experience in HR management and consulting across industries and domains of construction, MEP, power, retail, mall management, banking and finance, oil and gas, part operation and management, trading and shipping, commercial services, telecommunications, real estate, and education services. He is recognized as an HR expert in Dubai, and has worked as an HR advisor with local and international organizations. A mentor to many with substantial industry network, his core competencies lie in OD, total reward systems, talent management, HR and management consulting.

“I admire Prof. Rishikesha’s warmth and receptiveness to new ideas. He is an authority on systematic innovation in Indian industry and spending time with him is always a learning experience,” Dr. Pitchai said, honouring Prof. RT Krishnan with a shawl. He also thanked Prof. Gopal Mahapatra for his support. “The idea of the book, which is meant for managers and students of HR, is to examine how HR should evolve and adapt. HR is not about policies and procedures and performance management. It is about strategic people management and innovation.”

He spoke of “forgotten communities” among the workforce in countries like UAE and Singapore, the need to respect core competencies irrespective of job titles, and the true meaning of organizational behavior, development and growth.

In his address, Prof. RT Krishnan said Dr. Pitchai’s book examines many important questions on how organizations are managed. Drawing parallels with the questions raised by Sridhar Vembu, CEO of Zoho Corporation, and Dr. Pitchai in the book, he said a student of OB should be motivated to explore such issues in their research.

The launch of the book was followed by a Q&A session.
