IIM Bangalore inaugurates PGSEM 2011

On May 27, 2011 the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) inaugurated the Post Graduate Programme in Software Enterprise Management (PGSEM) batch of 2011, the 14th batch of this general management programme offered exclusively to professionals in the Indian Information Technology (IT) sector. The PGSEM course endeavours to provide the most current executive general management education to middle and senior IT professionals who seek to pursue a career in management. The programme aims to transform the IT professionals with strong technical knowledge into business leaders possessing equally strong management knowledge and global perspective. IIMB is proud to partner the Indian software and IT industry on its journey towards becoming a dominant force in the global market.

Dipesh Shah, Vice President of Samsung India and PGSEM alumnus, was the chief guest at the event and delivered the keynote address. He welcomed the students to his alma mater and shared with them the joy of learning at IIMB. He urged the students to befriend books and enjoy the challenge of management education. Expressing his vision of value enrichment that is needed to keep the Indian economy on the track of progress, Shah cautioned, "Unless Indian engineers and managers continuously add to the value proposition that they bring to the table, there are other fast-growing economies in Asia and elsewhere that would catch up." He said customers worldwide were looking for credible, concise and compelling value delivery. Congratulating the new batch of students on their selection Shah said "this premier institution shall change your frame of reference to include many new things and bring upon you the humility that comes with higher education."

Welcoming the new batch, Professor Pankaj Chandra, Director IIMB said PGSEM was probably the only general management education programme of its kind in the world that catered to working professionals with such rigour and broad content. Stressing that IIMB imparted to students far more than learning within the confines of the classroom, he urged the students to learn continuously through various activities happening on the campus and interact with students of other programmes.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Narendra M Agrawal, Chairperson PGSEM, encouraged the students to apply the concepts and ideas learnt at their workplace. Highlighting the global respect that India had gained through its IT industry, Professor Agrawal advised the participants of the new batch to further their learning, aim higher and achieve more.

The inauguration was followed by a panel discussion of new students with PGSEM alumni that focused on their experience of the course and how it benefitted them. The discussion formed part of the 3-day long orientation programme, at the start of the first semester.
