The discussion explored geopolitics, AI, and India’s growing role in the global financial ecosystem

23 September, 2025, Bengaluru: The Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP) cohort at IIM Bangalore hosted a fireside chat with senior leaders from HSBC, including Heather Baird, Managing Director, Global Head of Business Risk, Corporate & Institutional Banking; Simon Rubins, Managing Director, Global Head of Financial & Specialist Risk, CIB; Paul Loriggio, Managing Director, Head of MSS Front Office, Bangalore; Sumeer Chopra, Managing Director, Head of Risk Capability Office, CIB; Vikash Khandelwal, Director Head of Markets and Securities Services Non-Financial Risk; Bhavin Somaiya, Vice President at HSBC Global Banking and Markets; Hemali Sanghvi, Head of Leadership Hiring, HSBC; and Harsh Choudhary, AVP at Corporate Sales HSBC, Payments & FX Solutions. The session was moderated by Prof. Jayadev M, Finance & Accounting area, IIMB.

The conversation provided rich insights into the forces shaping global finance today. From the impact of increasing influence of geopolitics and retail trading on financial markets to the transformative role of artificial intelligence in risk management, the session underscored the need for agility, innovation, and responsible governance in a rapidly changing world.

Leaders highlighted that professionals must learn to separate noise from substance and develop the ability to respond with agility; meanwhile, AI will not replace jobs. Professionals who can integrate AI into decision-making will thrive. At the same time, risks such as bias and cybersecurity demand careful oversight. On India’s evolving role, the panel noted the rise of Global Capability Centers (GCCs), with Bengaluru emerging as an innovation hub poised to rival Silicon Valley.

The discussion also addressed the future of banking in the era of digital disruption, open banking, and climate-linked financial risks. Young professionals were urged to embrace change, expand their technological knowledge, and remain grounded in values of trust and integrity.

The session concluded with an emphasis on adaptability, reinvention, and resilience as hallmarks of future leadership. For the EPGP cohort, the fireside chat provided timely insights into navigating complexity and contributing to the next wave of transformation in global finance.
